The Liger‑Belair family has a history of more than two centuries in Burgundy, once owning legendary vineyards such as La Romanée and La Tâche. In 1933, a catastrophic auction of the family’s historic estate, though a few core parcels were saved by family members. The estate then fell into decline.

In 2000, Louis‑Michel Liger‑Belair took over and revived the domaine. With training as both an agricultural engineer and winemaker, he reclaimed family vineyards previously leased to négociants like Bouchard Père et Fils and began bottling independently. The estate now practices biodynamic viticulture, using horses for plowing, manual harvesting, and native yeast fermentation. Over the past quarter of a century, it has risen to become one of the most notable domaines in the region.

La Colombière is a monopole vineyard of about 0.78 hectares, located next to Château de Vosne‑Romanée. The Pinot Noir vines are predominantly old, and although classified as a Village wine, its monopole status and old vines make it a standout among Vosne‑Romanée village wines.

Tasting note:
The 2004 Vosne‑Romanée La Colombière shows aromas of red cherry, strawberry and raspberry lifted by floral notes of rose petals and violet, while the palate is light and silky with a red berry jam character and bright acidity. With maturity it reveals nuances of tobacco, leather and a faint animal fur tone, supported by fine tannins and balanced acidity that lead to a fresh finish.
