The delineated, enclosed Kaseler Dominikanerberg vineyard is one of Germany's rare monopole estates, owned exclusively by the von Nell-Breuning family. With its steep slopes, Dominikanerberg provides the perfect conditions for brilliantly fruity Rieslings. It features barren slate ground, with hard blue slate slabs which imbue the wines with a distinctive minerality. The steep south to south-west facing slope’s gradients average 50%.
Crafted from this exceptional terroir, the 2018 Riesling Auslese represents the traditional, lusciously sweet edelsüß style. Made from selectively hand-harvested, overripe grapes, its fermentation was stopped to preserve natural sugars, resulting in a low 7.5% ABV. This rich sweetness is perfectly balanced by the sharp, cool-climate acidity of the Ruwer valley, delivering a poised, vibrant expression with decades of aging potential.

2018 Riesling Auslese shows a minty and floral nose of smoke, white peach, green spices, apple and wet leaves. Flavours of pear, honeyed peach and almond cream wrapped into zesty candied fruits make for a playful and delicately juicy feel on the palate. The finish is long, airy and fresh. A very delicate wine full of expression. Still a very young wine with a great aging potential over the next four decades and beyond.
